Focus on Values, Goals, Sacrifices, Not Money!

4/20/2016

Each day we see articles stressing to save money, we must invest, we must put into our 401k, and reduce our debts. We see statistics showing how good or bad we are doing at managing our finances. The industry of finance loves to tell us how poorly we are doing, and that we must invest and save more. Their jobs are to promote their industry. The more money moves, changes hands, is invested and saved creates billions for their industry. Where they fail, is they fail to attach meaning, goals which are the real reasons we save, invest and work. Without these goals the money means nothing, absolutely nothing.

There should be simple basic goals in life, happiness, security, health and living a long productive live. How you prioritize these is up to you. Some are happy with a simply life requiring very little money, others need a lot of money to reach their goals to be happy. It makes no difference which one you are, but it does matter that you know which one of these you are. How you achieve the above list of goals is the point, itís up to you to figure out how to get from point A to point Z and achieve your dreams, goals and happiness.

In America we do an average to poor job at teaching a career and how to earn money. We do an even poorer job at teaching how to manage money and what the money is for. Children often hear they need to get a good education so they can get a good job and earn money, but the rub is they are never taught how to manage the money they earn. Too often our education system fails to talk about goals, happiness and what each personsí success should mean to them, instead itís all about the job and earning money.

Stop focusing on the money, and focus on the goals of life. If your goal is to own a nice home and have a family then make sure to focus on these goals. If you truly are motivated to achieve your goals you will find a way to reach your goals. If you focus on money without life goals the money has no meaning and will be spent without thought, wasted. If you hate your job, career, set a goal to change this, get passionate, motivated to find a career you love. This may mean working for yourself. Stop complaining and start changing by reviewing your Values, Goals and what are you willing to Sacrifice to achieve your goals of happiness, success, love, family, whatever they are, get busy.

The focus should be values, goals and sacrifices. What are your values? Are your goals in-tune with your values and what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your goals. Simple yet very complex, as the family man who desires a new sports car and boat and sacrifices the family savings and future savings for his desires. This is an example of where Values, Goals and Sacrifices are not aligned and can destroy the family.

Do you know your Values, Goals and what you are willing to sacrifice to achieve your goals? Put these in writing, set a plan and start achieving today.

Sincerely,

Phillip Day, President
